Buying a £30,000 truck off a WhatsApp video feels risky — but with the right checklist it's safer than buying from a local market with no paperwork.
Demand a full video walk-around: VIN plate close-up, dashboard with engine running showing oil pressure and warning lights, underbody pan, cab interior including the seat-belt date stamp, all four tyres with DOT codes, and a 30-second drive on the yard.
Paperwork to insist on: V5C logbook copy, MOT history (UK government check is free and we share the URL), service records if available, and an HPI / finance check confirming no outstanding loan.
Red flags: refusal to show the VIN plate, mismatch between V5 and chassis number, fresh paint on the chassis (often hides corrosion), or a price that's 25%+ below market. If the deal feels too good, it usually is.
