KEBS PVoC Import Requirements Explained for UK Volvo Buyers
Kenya's KEBS PVoC inspection is the single most common reason UK-shipped trucks get held at Mombasa. Here's exactly what's checked and how we pre-clear at the UK yard.
KEBS PVoC (Pre-Export Verification of Conformity) is mandatory for any used vehicle entering Kenya. Without a valid CoC, the container is held at Mombasa and demurrage builds fast.
Three approved inspection bodies operate from the UK: Intertek, SGS and Bureau Veritas. Any of them can issue the CoC, but they each need to physically inspect the truck before the container is sealed.
What they check: VIN match against V5, year of manufacture (8-year rule), RHD configuration, tyre condition, lights, brakes, and that the truck starts and drives. We book the inspection at our Peterborough yard before loading — buyers don't need to coordinate this.
If the truck fails, we re-test the failure points and re-book. The CoC ships with the original documents alongside the V5, MOT history and Bill of Lading.
